Boys Swimming and Diving: Park loses a close meet to Mounds View

Mounds View 93, Park 87

It was a back-and-forth night at Mounds View High School as Park and Mounds View battled for a the top spot in Tuesday's meet.

In the end though, Mounds View took home the 93-87 win over Park.

Park started off the meet with a first-place finish in the 200-yard medley relay. Mounds View took the top spot for the next two events, but the Wolfpack came in right behind the top swimmer. Sam Rhode finished third in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:57.48, while Dylan Purrington finished second in the 200 individual medley with a time of 2:07.06.

The Wolfpack regained the top spot in the 50 freestyle as Hogan Lawson finished first with a time of 22.36. Park also swept the 100 butterfly as Blake Harre, Tyson Kalinowski and Mitchell LeMay finished first, second and third respectively.

In the 1-meter diving, Phillip Zawieruszynski finished second behind Mounds View with a score of 153.90.

Lawson came back to the pool and finished first again in the 100 freestyle with a time of 49.25. Mounds View took first in the last five events of the meet, which gave them the lead.

Rhode took second in the 500 freestyle with a time of 5:13.30, while Devin Schwartz took second in the 100 backstroke with a time of 55.70. The Wolfpack had a team finish second in the 200 freestyle relay, while also finishing second and third in the 400 freestyle relay.

Finally, Purrington and Harre finished second and third in the 100 backstroke.

Park is looking to change that close loss into a win on Thursday, Jan. 10 at 6 p.m. as the Wolfpack hosts Roseville.
