Kuemmel's Corner: Graduation
Graduation always brings with it a bag of mixed emotions. The graduating seniors are so happy to be done with high school, yet are so sad to be leaving close friends behind.
Moving onto life beyond high school can be a little scary to think about. Many students will go on to college, while some may attend a trade school, get a job, or join the military.
Part of the enjoyment of being an educator is having the opportunity to meet and work with so many great students. I have really enjoyed getting to know members of this graduating class while working with them as athletes here at Park.
We will be losing a lot of very good athletes through graduation, but more importantly we will be losing a lot of really good people. I obviously cannot list them all here, but there are MANY seniors that I will especially miss, including our Super Fan captains and seniors that served as student aides in the Activities Office.
Good luck to all of our students that will be continuing their athletic careers in college. I enjoy attending the Commencement ceremony and thinking of the bright future for all of our graduates.
This year's ceremony was again held at Aldrich Arena. I hope someday we will be able to move commencement back out to the stadium. I think the stadium really represents the many positive experiences of the students' high school years and returning one last time to graduate there is very special to them.
I know the seniors enjoy having their senior picnic at Wolfpack Stadium at the end of each school year. I will close with a line from a Semisonic song, "Every new beginning comes from some other beginning's end."
Congratulations to the class of 2019. I know these students have the knowledge, skills, and attitudes to be successful in life. I hope we have ignited a passion for lifelong learning. Good luck in everything that you do. We hope you come back to visit us sometime soon. Carpe Diem. And always #BleedGreen.
