Charles J. Herrig

Charles J. Herrig, 72, of Port Charlotte, Florida, passed away surrounded by family on Thursday, June 13, 2019. Chuck was born in Algona, Iowa on May 22, 1947 to Joseph and Domitilla before growing up along the banks of the Mississippi River in Bellevue, Iowa. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Janet. After serving four years in the Army stationed in Germany, Chuck and Janet settled in Cottage Grove, Minnesota where they raised two sons, Anthony and Benjamin. During their years there, Chuck was active as a baseball coach for his sons' baseball teams and in social sporting leagues with their friends. Chuck retired from Colgate Palmolive after over 30 years with the company. He reveled in his retirement where he could likely be found on the lake, the golf course or the pickleball court. Chuck is survived by his wife, Janet, their two sons, Tony (Darcy) and Ben, also two cherished grandchildren, Cameron and Finn. A celebration and gathering will be held on Wednesday June 26 at River Oaks Golf Course in Cottage Grove from 3 to 6 pm. A service will follow in Bellevue, Iowa on Tuesday July 2nd at 10:30am at St. Joseph's Catholic Church with a reception following at the OffShore Events Center. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Tidewell Hospice of Port Charlotte, Florida or the American Brain Tumor Association.
