Baseball: Park, East Ridge earn key wins on Friday
Park 4, Woodbury 1
Park had two tough losses to Forest Lake and Stillwater to start off the week, but the Wolfpack learned from those games and beat Woodbury 4-1 on Friday.
"The players came in with a strong mindset and confidence from the close games this week," said Park head coach John McGowan. "They played hard every inning and I couldn't be more proud of the win for them today."
Park had a 1-0 lead in the second inning, but Woodbury came right back in the third to tie the game 1-1. Then, the Wolfpack broke out in the seventh inning to take a 4-1 lead that would end the game with a victory.
Tanner Strantz started the scoring in the seventh with a bases loaded single scoring a runner. Matt Wilkinson scored the other two runs as he smacked a single into the outfield scoring two.
Then, Lex Lindow went on the mound and used his confidence to his advantage.
"I tried to keep them off balance with different pitches," Lindow said. "I had a strong defense behind me to make some plays and get this win."
Woodbury had four total hits throughout the game and Royals coach Kevin McDermott said it was due to poor at-bats. He said that Woodbury will have to learn from this game as they prepare for next week's conference games.
"We won two out of three this week and we need to make sure it's all three next week," said Brock Rinehart. "We just need to stay focused these next couple weeks to finish the regular season strong."
