Chamber puts it all into Business Showcase for 50th anniversary
COTTAGE GROVE — After 50 years, the Cottage Grove Area Chamber of Commerce can still launch new ... for their 15th annual Business Showcase.
Most of the showcase will be business as usual, including more than 60 vendors and insulated tote bags for the first 500 families arriving at the Cottage Grove Ice Arena.
Beyond that, the event will be nearly unrecognizable to longtime showcase-goers.
Chamber Director Jennifer Wenshau said this will be a bit of a "transition year," as it will be the first year implementing some big changes for the business showcase.
Food vendors — now located on the upper of the ice arena — will be charging for their snacks for the first time. In the past, food vendors have passed out free samples.
Bonngard's Family Meats, Junction 70 Grill, Hy-Vee, Perkins, Von Hanson's Meats, Culvers and Cub Foods will be providing snacks, meals and sandwiches for purchase.
The former food vendor area on the main floor will be taken over by a number of family-friendly activities.
"We're adding a lot more fun," Wenshau said.
Sky High Inflatables will set up an obstacle course for kids and there will be golf contests for adults.
River Oaks Golf Course and Events Center will have a chipping and putting contest and Edward's Plumbing is setting up a golf simulator.
There will also be drawings for other prizes.
Other games and activities include Vintage Gameroom's pinball and games, Mandana balloon artistry, Carpenter Nature Center, free open ice skating and the 3M Wizards. The Cottage Grove Public Safety Department will also be there with a fire truck.
"We're showcasing what's here and keeping everything local," Wenshau said.
