Woman pinned under SUV she was operating

A 43-year-old woman is in critical condition after the SUV she was operating rolled on top of her Thursday morning in Cottage Grove.

The accident happened in the driveway of a residence in the 7200 block of Janero Avenue, according to Cottage Grove Police. They received a call at 6:20 a.m. after the woman’s son heard a crash outside and alerted his father.

A Cottage Grove officer/paramedic arrived less than seven minutes later and discovered the woman pinned under the front driver’s side wheel at the bottom of the driveway. She was not breathing. The officer administered CPR and the woman resumed breathing with further assistance from an ambulance crew.

The woman, whose name was not released, suffered severe chest trauma and was transported to Region’s Hospital in St. Paul.

Neighbor James Huber used his hydraulic jack to help free the woman. He said he was pulling his vehicle out of the garage when the woman’s husband pounded on his window.

“I had my jack in the outer garage and I grabbed it and the jack stand and ran down and did what I had to do,” he said. “I was just heading out.”

Huber, a manager at Compass Airlines in Minneapolis, said his first concern is for the recovery of the woman.
