ST. PAUL -- Newport Firefighters extinguished a car fire Tuesday evening at Highway 61 and Carver Avenue in St. Paul.

There were no reported injuries.

Newport Fire Chief Steve Wiley said they responded to a call at 8:37 p.m. of a burning vehicle near the BaileyRoad/Maxwell Avenue exit. They found nothing at that location but continued northbound on the highway and spotted the car  between Carver Avenue and Lower Afton Road.

They extinguished the blaze before St. Paul Firefighters arrived on the scene, Wiley said.

The Minnesota Highway Patrol briefly shut down northbound Highway 61.
