Man struck, killed in St. Paul Park in latest East Metro pedestrian fatality

ST. PAUL PARK — A St. Paul Park woman was arrested as a result of the Jan. 11 death of a pedestrian who was struck by two cars, according to an incident report from the Minnesota State Patrol.
Police allege that Gina Marrone, 48, left the scene after she struck a man as he lay in the road around 3:40 a.m. near the intersection of Hastings and Lincoln avenues in St. Paul Park.
Marrone was booked into Washington County Jail but released on Saturday, Jan. 12.
Phillip Cain, 49, of Roseville, was walking when he was struck by a 2008 Ford Taurus that was southbound on Hastings Avenue. The driver doubled back to the scene and called police.
A 2007 Saab, also southbound, then struck Cain. The driver left the scene but was later found.
Primary responders with St. Paul Park police were assisted by officers from Cottage Grove. Cain was pronounced dead at the scene.
His death marks the fifth pedestrian fatality in the East Metro in less than two weeks.
A man and a woman were struck and killed by a motorist Jan. 3 while crossing Larpenteur Avenue in Roseville. The following evening, a woman died after she was hit while she and another woman were crossing McKnight Road in St. Paul. A 55-year-old woman was struck and killed Jan. 5 while walking near her home in Inver Grove Heights.
