Newport public safety reports: Dumpster diving; Suspicious knocking
Neng Vang, 32, of Maplewood, was arrested on suspicion of drunken driving Nov. 18 after crashing into the barrier at the Bailey Road ramp onto Highway 61. Veng was uninjured, but told police he drank four Bud Lights at Treasure Island Casino before leaving to drive home. A preliminary breathalyzer test recorded a blood alcohol concentration of 0.19.
A 37-year-old Cottage Grove resident was arrested on suspicion of drunken driving Nov. 22 near the Glen Road on-ramp to Highway 61. The driver admitted to having drinks earlier, and a preliminary breathalyzer test showed a blood alcohol concentration of 0.173.
A 26-year-old Red Wing man was arrested on suspicion of drunken driving Nov. 28 near Glen Road and Highway 61. The preliminary breathalyzer test showed a blood alcohol concentration of 0.202. The man refused a breath test at the Washington County jail and was booked for driving under the influence and for refusing the test.
Charlie John Keller, 41, of Blaine, was arrested and cited for possession of drug paraphernalia at SuperAmerica, 1624 Hastings Ave., Nov. 20. Keller was reportedly yelling and screaming from the restroom. Deputies found a syringe with Keller, who told them he had been using heroin. He was transported to Regions Hospital for a chemical dependency evaluation.
A 41-year-old Hastings man was cited for a small amount of marijuana and drug paraphernalia after a deputy found a marijuana cigarette and a glass pipe for smoking meth in his vehicle in the 1500 block of Hastings Avenue Nov. 24.
Residents in the 900 block of 12th Street Nov. 21 reported a 33-year-old West St. Paul man for suspicious activity. The man was knocking on the door and appeared drunk. He told police he left his keys in the home, but the owner said he had never been in the house. Police told the man to get a ride home and retrieve his car later.
A resident in the 1300 block of 10th Street reported Nov. 23 that a male had been in her dumpster the day before. She visually identified the man to deputies when he drove by the house. A deputy stopped the 30-year-old Minneapolis man in his vehicle, and the man admitted he had been digging through the dumpster.
