Merrill Arts Center announces upcoming season

Merrill Arts Center announced its 2019-20 season during a gathering June 5. Five plays and musicals were chosen for the coming season.

"Junie B. Jones is NOT a Crook"

This play is based on books by best-selling author Barbara Park and follows Junie B. through the dramas of kindergarten.

When: Oct. 4-13

Where: Black Box Theatre in the Round (East Ridge High School)

Times: 7 p.m. on Oct. 4, 5, 11 and 12; 2 p.m. on Oct. 6 and 13.

Cost: $8-22

Rating: G

"Madeline's Christmas"

Based on Ludwig Bemelman's tale, this musical follows Madeline and her classmates as they celebrate Christmas.

When: Dec. 6-15

Where: Loft Stage (East Ridge High School)

Times: 7 p.m. on Dec. 6, 7, 13 and 14; 2 p.m. on Dec. 8 and 15.

Cost: $0-22

Rating: G

"Young Frankenstein"

This show is what happens when Mel Brooks' classic film about Frankenstein's grandson meets a musical.

When: Feb. 7-16

Where: Loft Stage

Times: 7 p.m. on Feb. 7, 8, 14 and 15; 2 p.m. on Feb. 9 and 16

Cost: $8-22

Rating: PG-13

"Cyrano de Bergerac"

This classic tale follows Cyrano de Bergerac, a man of many talents, as he falls in love but is afraid to express it due to his large nose.

When: April 17-26

Where: Black Box Theatre in the Round

Times: 7 p.m. on April 17, 18, 24 and 25; 2 p.m. on April 19 and 26

Cost: $8-22

Rating: PG

"Matilda"

Roald Dahl's classic children's book is transformed into a musical.

When: July 10-19

Where: Loft Stage

Times: 7 p.m. on July 10, 11, 17 and 18; 2 p.m. on July 12 and 19
