Strawberry Fest lifts off

Score one for the weather, which couldn't have been better for Thursday's opening of the Cottage Grove Strawberry Fest at Kingston Park. 

The festival runs through Sunday and includes a carnival, food, games and the Grande Day Parade 10:30 a.m. Saturday.

Friday’s events include the  Ultimate Water Balloon Game at 2 p.m. and the Top Chef Contest at 6 p.m.

Live music starts at 5 p.m. with a set by the rock quartet Kevin’s Cousin.  Their set includes songs by Adele, Joan Jett, AC/DC and Pink. Gonzo arena-rock tribute band Rock Godz play 8 p.m.-midnight. Audiences are encouraged to pump their fists and to sing along to their covers of “Rock and Roll All Night” by Kiss and “Pyromania” by Def Leppard.

Both shows are on the main stage.

William Loeffler is a playwright and journalist from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He worked 15 years writing features for the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review. He has also written travel stories based on his trips to all seven continents. He and his wife, Michelle, ran the Boston Marathon in 2009.
