The annual Films in 5 Festival is back, with a new date and no entry fee.

The Cottage Grove Arts Commission is accepting submissions for the May 18 festival, which begins at 1 p.m. at Park Grove Library.

"We're kind of working a joint effort," said commission member Shawn Foster-Huot. "The (library) are (sic) promoting it as well as the Arts Commission."

Artists are invited to enter original films, videos or cartoons five minutes or less in length, including credits. All genres and formats are welcome, so long as they observe the bounds of good taste.

The competition is open to residents of Cottage Grove, St. Paul Park, Newport, Woodbury, Afton, Grey Cloud Township or Denmark Township.

Prizes will be awarded for the top-three films. First prize receives a $100 gift card to a Cottage Grove business. Second prize is a $50 gift card and third prize is a $25 gift card.

The audience favorite will be decided by online voting before the festival.

"This year we're taking the submissions and will post the videos on the ArtBeat Facebook page," Foster-Huot said. "The city and the library will direct traffic to this page where we will have a two-week voting period online. ... We're trying to get a little more interaction from the public this year."

The four winning films will be shown on SWCTC's Cottage Grove Spotlight and featured on the City of Cottage Grove's website, www.cottagegrovemn.govAudience.

The deadline for submissions is April 30. Entrants will be notified in early May. For more information, email filmsin5festival@gmail.com.
