Chamber celebrates half century at annual fall banquet

COTTAGE GROVE — The Cottage Grove Area Chamber of Commerce celebrated its annual fall banquet at River Oaks Golf Course on Sept. 27.

In keeping with the 50th anniversary celebration, guests were encouraged to come dressed in 1950s costumes. The evening included an appearance by Elvis impersonator Art Kistler, who dueted with Cottage Grove City Council member Dave Thiede.

The Chamber also named its annual award winners. They include:

Business of the Year: Merchants Bank

Educator of the Year: Linnea Gamache, reading specialist at Cottage Grove Elementary School.

Business Person of the Year: Ben Gathje, Culver's

Volunteer of the Year: Mary Slusser

President's Award: Becky Fox of Mary Kay Cosmetics

William Loeffler

William Loeffler is a playwright and journalist from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He worked 15 years writing features for the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review. He has also written travel stories based on his trips to all seven continents. He and his wife, Michelle, ran the Boston Marathon in 2009.
