Eunice Lorraine Polk, 81, Red Wing, died Saturday at Fairview Seminary Home. She was born Aug. 21, 1921, in Stillwater, Minn., to Alvin and Agnes (Olson) Halvorson. The family moved to Minneota, Minn., where she started school. In 1932, the family moved to Detroit Lakes, Minn., where she attended school until the seventh grade when the family moved to Halstad, Minn., where her dad was superintendent of schools. She graduated from high school in 1939, and from Concordia College, Moorhead, Minn., in 1943, with a home economics and phy-ed degree. She taught high school in Karlstad, Minn.

Merna May Gilmore, 89, Montgomery, Ala., died there Thursday. She was born April 29, 1913, in Sheridan County, Neb., to George and Amanda (Reinecke) Cooper. She attended schools in Alliance, Neb., and graduated from high school in 1931. She married John Gilmore, and they moved to Fort Morgan, Colo., where they lived for nearly 30 years and then retired. He died July 3, 1981.

Eva Christiansen, 78 Jan. 3, 2002 Eva Beyer Christiansen, 78, Hager City, died Friday following a short illness. She was born July 21, 1924, to Joseph and Mabel (Hurry) Beyer. She graduated from high school and worked as a bookkeeper. She kept a journal of her daily activities which she sent to her daughter in Japan. Survivors include her daughter Kaya (Mitsunori) Sawada of Japan; one granddaughter and one great-granddaughter; sisters Viola Hart, Genevieve Ottman, Margaret Thompson, and Esther Wilson; brothers David, Raymond and Henry Beyer; and special friend Rod Pearson.

Bob Bovee and Gail Heil will perform for the first square dance in the new hall at Hobgoblin Music, home of Stoney End Folk Harp in rural Red Wing. The dance floor in the old gray barn on Highway 19 will be inaugurated at 7:30 p.m. Jan. 11. Bovee and Heil will call the dance in addition to performing their American traditional music. They have a large and varied repertoire including authentic cowboy songs, blues and ragtime numbers, ballads and yodels.
