Beulah Almira Callister, 90, Kenyon, died Friday at Kenyon Sunset Home. She was born April 24, 1912, in Alvarado, Minn., to Adolph and Effie (Sands) Batalden and moved with her parents to a farm near Lamberton, Minn. She was in the last class in Old Westbrook Lutheran Church to be confirmed in Norwegian. After completing eighth grade she moved to Windom, Minn., to live with her aunt and complete high school, graduating in 1929. She graduated from teachers training in 1930.

POLICE/SHERIFF Stolen vehicle Gordon Bjerk, Stanton, reported Thursday that someone stole vehicle late Wednesday or early Thursday from unlocked garage at residence. Vehicle was recovered undamaged at about 10:40 a.m. Thursday on 290th Street in Dakota County. Burglary Robert Benson, Stanton, reported Wednesday that someone broke a window to gain entry to his residence and stole several items, including phone, microwave, handgun and rifle, electronic piano, binoculars, two jewelry boxes and videos; value estimated at $6,272.
Alvin Richard Vogt, 85, Pepin, died Wednesday at Pepin Manor. He was born April 15, 1917, in Nelson, Wis., to Albert and Emma (Preifert) Vogt. He attended school in Nelson, then worked with his father on the home farm. On Aug. 17, 1940, he married Anga Thompson. They moved to Nelson in 1945, where he worked for the Nelson Cooperative Creamery for 25 years. She died Dec. 25, 1969. On April 7, 1971, he married Faye Hetrick in Nelson. They lived in Nelson where he worked for the Corps of Engineers until retiring in 1983. In September 1996 he moved to the Eastside Apartments in Pepin.

ZUMBROTA -- The future of agriculture in Goodhue County was debated at length Thursday as County Planner Nancy Spooner-Mueller convened the first meeting on updating the county's comprehensive plan. "We are looking for what we want the county to be in 30 years," she told a packed room at Zumbrota City Hall. The comprehensive plan was created in 1969 and updated in 1990. Many comments focused on agriculture.
