Patrick Johnson has been the South Washington County Bulletin’s sports editor since 2008. He reports on and oversees coverage of high school and amateur sports in south Washington County and Woodbury. Prior to joining the Bulletin, Johnson worked for other Twin Cities suburban newspapers. In 2012-13, the Park boys swimming and diving team put together a 3-10 season, beating Tartan and Cretin-Derham Hall along the way. The Wolfpack welcomes back a number of key athletes this winter.
This winter the Park gymnastics team will be without longtime coach Mark Sikich for the first time in nearly 30 years.
The Park dance team is back in action this winter after a season that saw the Wolfpack go fifth in the Suburban East Conference.
Though a conference championship is probably a longshot and a trip to the state tournament may be unlikely, the players making up the Park boys basketball team are begging opponents to discount them this season. That will play right into their hands.
East Ridge’s coaches will tell you they’re a deep team full of talented players far beyond the starting five — and they are. However, make no mistake, much of the Raptors’ success in 2013-14 lay in the hands of seniors Jake Knupp and Ryan Keenan.

The New Life Academy boys basketball team enters 2013-14 off of a 12-16 season a year ago. The Eagles went 6-7 in the Minnesota Christian Athletic Association last winter.
New Life boasts a roster compiled of seven seniors, two juniors and two sophomores this winter.
The 2013 state meet was bittersweet for four East Ridge seniors. Lindsey Lewis, Maddy Peters, Meredith Ubel and Taylor Johnson swam their final high school meet on the state’s biggest stage – the 2013 Class AA state meet, held Nov. 18-20 at the University of Minnesota.
