The Park dance team competed in the Suburban East Conference championship meet on Jan.
The East Ridge girls basketball team flexed its muscles last week. The Raptors won two Suburban East Conference games, beating Cretin-Derham Hall 62-50 and Stillwater 49-42 before taking down non-conference foe Irondale 70-36 to once again prove they’ll likely be a formidable team in the second half of the year. Newport’s Mimi Wiencke is currently in Europe for her final three Olympic qualifying races. Wiencke is the top-ranked women’s alpine snowboard racer in the country and an Olympic hopeful in two events —the parallel slalom and parallel giant slalom. She was in Jauerling, Austria, on Jan. 10 and Bad Gastein, Austria on Jan. 12. Her final qualifying event will be on Jan. 18 in Rogla, Slovenia. The Sochi Olympics open on Feb. 6. Park senior guard Sydney Lamberty was nominated to play in the 2014 McDonald’s All-American basketball games.
The PWER (Park, East Ridge and Woodbury) Nordic ski teams braved the elements last week to take on the rest of the Suburban East Conference in a meet at Battle Creek Regional Park in St. Paul on Wednesday.
