The clouds lifted last week for a celebration. After a week where gloomy weather seemed to be the rule, the cover of gray gave way to a burst of sunshine just as hundreds gathered Friday, June 7, at East Ridge High School for the annual Relay for Life of South Washington County. Woodbury teenager Zach Netten kicked off festivities with a speech as the 2013 honorary cancer survivor. The East Ridge High School freshman described the lessons he learned during cancer treatment, which saw his hair fall out in clumps. The future of Crosswinds Arts and Sciences School is no more certain now than in February, when lawmakers first considered a bill addressing the Woodbury school's future. The session ended at midnight Monday, May 20, without a final decision on legislation that sought to preserve Crosswinds' integration model by conveying the building to either District 833 or the state's Perpich Center for the Arts. Not long after the poem was read, Twitter comments began bubbling up from Woodbury community members, including Kelly Fenton, whose son attends East R
In fourth grade, building robots just sounded like a cool thing to do for a group of local students. Four years later, robot construction is serious business for the group of south Washington County students. The students -- a mix of eighth-graders attending Woodbury and Cottage Grove middle schools that has expanded to a five-person team -- now prepare to make their fourth trip to the Boston Scientific Minnesota First Lego League State Championship. There, the team, dubbed Robo Nuts, will compete against more than 60 other groups vying for a chance to advance to a national tournament in St
Woodbury's cross-town rivalry lived up to its billing Friday night. An apparent laugher at one point with Woodbury up 22 points at the half, the Raptors chiseled away in the second half on its way to 72-67 home victory. East Ridge improved its overall record to 6-1 with the win and moved into first place in the Suburban East Conference at 2-0.
