The floors at the Newport Public Works building are expected to be replaced yet this year after sustaining flood damage earlier this summer. Superintendent Bruce Hanson said a water line burst in early July, flooding the building’s lunchroom and offices. He said the standing water caused the tile to loosen and raise, making it no longer stable. Hanson filed an insurance claim and the replacement was estimated to cost around $8,000. He said the existing tile was high maintenance and slippery when wet and that a more slip resistant flooring should be used as replacement.
