Families from around the area celebrated Mardi Gras early at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church in St. Paul Park Saturday and Sunday with food, raffles, games and a silent auction. Deacon Jim Price and his wife, Kathy, ran the popular cake walk game where homebaked goods lured in participants. Dorothy Lind and her granddaughter, 15-year-old Amber Braulick, gave away prizes during a mock pull-tab game. Lind said she’s been part of the annual Mardi Gras celebration for over 20 years.
S’mores, skating and a smoldering campfire drew dozens to Whitbred Memorial Park in St. Paul Park Sunday for the city’s first-ever Winterfest outing. The outdoor ice skating event was hosted by the city’s Parks and Recreation Commission. The Cottage Grove RadioShack is one of 27 stores in Minnesota slated for closure next month after the franchise filed for bankruptcy. Last week, RadioShack made a deal with wireless retailer Sprint and is expected to sell up to 2,400 of its stores in the United States, with approximately 1,750 of those stores becoming “a new dedicated mobility ‘store within a store’ retail presence” where both RadioShack and Sprint products will be sold, according to a news release issued by the company.
