Marlene J. Oster, Beloved Wife, Mother Grandmother and Great-grandmother, passed away June 3, age 74, of South St. Paul. Preceded in death by daughter-in-law Cindy; two brothers Thomas and William Freiling; and two sisters Katherine Beyers and Norma Schaus. Survived by husband Edwin; three children David (Jennifer), Julianne Oster and Amy (Clark) Kolstad; 10 grandchildren Heather (Joe), Kelly (Garrett), David Jr.
Mary "Evie" Lucas, age 81 of St. Paul Park, passed away on May 28, 2009. Mary Evelyn was born Feb. 4, 1928, in Minneapolis the daughter of John and Lorretta (Mahoney) Moore. She was raised in northeast Minneapolis and graduated from Edison High School. On July 3, 1953 she was united in marriage with Hollis Ray Lucas in San Diego, Calif. She retired from Burlington Northern Railroad in 1994. She will be remembered for her devotion to her family. Mary loved children and enjoyed walking to the park, meeting with the Wednesday girls and bowling.
James Wroblewski James "Jim" M. Wroblewski, age 40, of Cottage Grove, passed away Friday May 22, 2009 in Hudson, Wis. James was born April 9, 1969 in St. Paul, Minn., the son of Victor and Mary Wroblewski. He grew up in Cottage Grove, where he attended school and graduated from Park High School in 1987. James started working for Cub Foods when he was 17 and has been an employee of Cub Foods for over 23 years. On April 24, 1999, James was married to Lisa Simon in Las Vegas, Nev. They have been married 10 years. James was a devoted husband and family man.
Marian Allie passed away on May 31, 2009. Mass of Christian Burial 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 3 at St. Michael's Catholic Church, 337 E. Hurley, West St. Paul. Interment Fort Snelling National Cemetery. Charles Hinz, age 93, of Woodbury, passed away surrounded by family on Monday morning, May 18, 2009, at Woodwinds Hospital in Woodbury. Charles's journey through life encompassed his dedication to faith, family and friends. Charles Francis Hinz was born Nov. 17, 1915, in Emerald, Wis., the son of Anton and Emily (Thorvold) Hinz. He was raised in Osceola. On June 24, 1935, Charles was united in marriage with Theresa Neumann. He had 42 years of service as a supervisor with Armour & Co. Charles loved farming and gardening.
Joanne E. Oswald, 79, of Newport, passed away on Sunday, May 17, 2009, at her home following a lengthy illness. A memorial gathering was held on Thursday, May 21, 2009 from 4 until 8 p.m. with a time of remembrance at 7 p.m. at Kok Funeral Home in St. Paul Park. Burial will be at a later date in St. Thomas Aquinas Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred. Joanne E. Oswald was born June 14, 1929, in South Saint Paul, Minnesota, the daughter of William and Edith (Anderson) Jacobsen.
Bruce "Mike" Melton, age 54, of Cottage Grove, died suddenly on May 13, 2009. Bruce Michael was born March 5, 1955, in Cleveland, Tenn., the son of Bennie Joe and Pauline (Higdon) Melton. He moved to Minnesota in junior high. In 1973 he graduated from Henry Sibley High School. On August 9, 1986, he was united in marriage with Beth Shafer.
Alice Theodora Lauve, age 94, of Newport, died on April 30, 2009, at Augustana Health Care Center in Minneapolis. Alice was born Nov. 13, 1914 in Maynard, Minn., the daughter of Theodore and Annette (Stenson) Thorkelson. She graduated from Granite Falls High School in 1932. She was united in marriage to Stanley Lauve at Wang Lutheran Church in Maynard on Nov. 4, 1939. Alice will be greatly missed by those whose lives she touched. Alice was a top sales associate at Dayton's for many years and enjoyed sewing, bead work, needlepoint and crochet.
Bruce Long, age 86, of Cottage Grove, passed away on May 2, 2009. Bruce Lathrop Long was born Dec. 2, 1922, in White Bear Lake, Minn., the son of Lloyd and Edna (Lathrop) Long. His family farmed in Forest Lake and Woodbury. He graduated from Harding High School. At the age of 18 he moved to Cottage Grove. He was united in marriage with Barbara Klinefelter.
