Park senior infielder Mary Turitto, who signed to play college ball at Winona State next fall, returns to lead the Wolfpack this season. Last spring, Turitto led the Wolfpack in home runs and RBIs.

Junior pitcher Michaela Anderson is one of two starters back with the Raptors this spring. Last year she pitched in 12 games last year, going 4-7 with a 3.13 ERA and 70 strikeouts in 69 1/3 innings.

The Cottage Grove Athletic Association U12 softball Green team won the Minnesota Metro Fastpitch League fall ball state championship last week in the Tier 1 bracket of the eight-tier tournament, earning the right to call themselves the best U12 softball team in the state.

The first-ever Big Wiff wiffle ball tournament will take place on Saturday, Aug. 18. The event aims to raise money for the Miracle League of Minnesota, which helps give children with mental and/or physical challenges a chance to play baseball.

Denny Larson, 65, has coached the 'Bolts the past 15 seasons. He had heart surgery a year ago, but that didn't stop him from coaching the south Washington Thunderbolts adapted soccer and softball teams this past season - leading the latter to the state tournament last week.

In their 12th state appearance, but first since 2007, the Thunderbolts adapted softball team earned fourth place in the 2012 Minnesota State High School League state adapted softball tournament, CI Division, in Coon Rapids.
