Shreya Narayan of Cottage Grove plays the flute and the veena, a stringed instrument that is related to the sitar. Now 16, she has suffered from  acute peanut and treenut allergies since she was a baby. Narayan, who also suffer from asthma,. She'll  play a benefit concert Saturday afternoon at East Ridge High School to raise money for the Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America (AAFA).

Students spent two weeks filling gift baskets and boxes full of birthday party basics for needy kids. Dentist Kate McGinn performed free oral surgery on orphans at the Daylight Model School in Tanzania in October and on villagers in a remote village near the border with Uganda.  McGinn, who practices at Metro Dentalcare in Cottage Grove, has also provided dental care to the needy in Haiti, Mexico and Vietnam.
