John McGowan, a Park graduate who has been involved with the baseball program for many years, was hired as the Wolfpack's new baseball coach last week. McGowan teaches at Park and is also an assistant football coach.

On Sunday, 45 teams took part and over 300 attended a wiffle ball tournament and fundraiser for Zach Netten, a freshman at East Ridge High School and a standout pitcher, who was diagnosed with Hodgkin's Lymphoma Disease in early September.

East Ridge freshman Zach Netten was diagnosed with Hodgkin's disease in early September -- just three days after starting high school. He recently was able to attend the Raptors' Tackle Cancer football game on Homecoming.

The first-ever Big Wiff wiffle ball tournament will take place on Saturday, Aug. 18. The event aims to raise money for the Miracle League of Minnesota, which helps give children with mental and/or physical challenges a chance to play baseball.

Spencer Diedrich and the St. Paul Park Legion Post 98 baseball team split a double-header with East Ridge last week. However, the Parkers lost five of their last seven regular season games to finish 19-18 overall and earned the 13th seed in the District 3 playoffs.

Cottage Grove VFW Post 8752 has lost its past eight games to fall to 3-13 on the season. Cottage Grove's Braedon Cordts is hitting .375 and has a 2-3 record, and 4.58 ERA, allowing 33 hits in 26 innings pitched, while striking out 17 from the mound.

Max Stedt and the St. Paul Park Legion Post 98 baseball team won six of its past seven games and improved to 17-13 overall on the year. In its past 16 games, Post 98 is 12-4.
