East Ridge wrestling: Raptors take three of past four duals

The East Ridge Raptors wrestling team won three of its four duals that took place Friday and Saturday.

On Friday, the Raptors were able to beat Cretin-Derham Hall to give them their second victory in the Suburban East Conference on the year - something no East Ridge squad has done in a single season before.

On parents' night for the hosting Raptors, East Ridge hosted CDH and Minneapolis Edison in a triangular that saw many of East Ridge's junior varsity wrestlers seeing action as the illness and injury bugs are still eating away at the Raptors.

In their match against CDH, East Ridge won 45-30, as each team received three forfeits apiece.

After a pin recorded by eighth-grader Ty Okada (106) and a major decision win by Ryan Thompson (113), the Raptors then were awarded their three straight forfeit wins to give them a 28-0 lead out of the chute.

Following two CDH wins, the East Ridge middle-heavy weights did their part by winning three in row.

Emilio Huerta (152) and Kevin Siemers (160) each pinned their opponents and Nate Tigges (170) recorded a major technical fall by an 18-2 decision to seal the victory for the Raptor team.

In the second match on Friday, East Ridge defeated Minneapolis Edison 51-18.

Four forfeits were awarded to the Raptors, and two double forfeits went unscored for either team in a dual match that saw just eight wrestling contests.

Winning for the Raptors were Okada (106), Thompson (113), Robb Scott (126), Tigges (170), and Zach Dreher (182).

On Saturday, the Raptors traveled to Robbinsdale Armstrong for a five-team dual meet that squared off East Ridge against Minnetonka and Park Center.

The Raptors first wrestled Minnetonka, losing a nail-biter 40-34 following two forfeits that ended the evening in Minnetonka's favor.

Winning for East Ridge were Okada (106), Carson Lesher (114) by forfeit, Reid Lyden (126), Cory Kiger (132), Josh Stensgard (138), and Tigges (182).

Against Park Center, the Raptors were able to bounce back to win a tight match of their own by a score of 42-39.

In another forfeit-filled dual that saw East Ridge score four free matches versus Park Center's three, the Raptors were able to get wins from Okada (106), Lyden (132), and Stensgrad (138).

The Raptors hosted a triangular match against St. Thomas Academy and Minneapolis Southwest on Tuesday, but results were not available at the time of printing.
