East Ridge boys hockey: Nickoloff, Raptors take down Hastings 3-1

East Ridge picked up back-to-back wins Tuesday with a 3-1 victory over Suburban East Conference foe Hastings at Cottage Grove Ice Arena.

The Raptors (2-4, 2-2 SEC) put 34 shots on goal and used a three-goal third period to rally past the Raiders (2-5, 0-4 SEC) for the victory.

East Ridge senior Jake Nickoloff scored twice in the third period and junior Frans Koskinen tallied the game-winner at the 5-minute, 7-second mark of the third.

Nickoloff scored 25 seconds into the third period on the power-play on assists from sophomore Derek Hammer and senior Colin Borsheim and added a goal at the 5:50 mark as East Ridge took the game over in a span of less than six minutes.

Senior goalie Tyler Guck made 28 saves in the win for the Raptors.

Seniors Colin NewKirk and Ryan McDonough also each had a point for East Ridge.

However, following the win, a furious third period gave Mounds View a 6-4 victory over East Ridge Saturday at Shoreview Arena.

The two teams combined for six goals in the third period and featured three lead changes. The Mustangs (2-3, 2-2 SEC) trailed 4-3 after Koskinen scored at 7 minutes, 30 seconds of the third period. But Mounds View went on to score three consecutive goals in the next 2:21 of the period.

Dan Dewitt tied the game at 4-4 at 8:25 for his second goal of the game and 55 seconds later Wyatt Meyer gave Mounds View a 5-4 lead at 9:20. Thirty-one seconds later Conner Rimell scored to put the Mustangs up 6-4.

The Raptors (2-4, 2-2 SEC) held a 29-25 advantage in shots on goal and went 1-for-4 on the power play.

Early on it looked like it might be a rout the other way. East Ridge scored the game’s first two goals within the first two minutes of the game. Nickoloff scored 55 seconds into the game and senior Luke Ringhofer added a goal at 1:33.

Mounds View tied the game on Dewitt’s first goal of the game with 28 seconds left in the second period. McDonough gave the Raptors a 3-2 lead 26 seconds into the third period but Rimell tied it at 4:32 with his first goal of the game.
