East RIdge girls swimming & diving: East Ridge takes eighth at first True Team meet
Wild-card entry East Ridge placed eighth in its first-ever appearance at the State Class AA True Team girls swimming and diving meet on Thursday, Oct. 21 at the University of Minnesota Aquatics Center.
The Raptors, who finished second in the section True Team meet a week earlier, recorded 1,164.5 points in its first team trip to a state meet.
East Ridge saw its greatest success of its state experience in diving as sophomore Jenna Karrow placed first off the 1-meter board with a score of 418.70 points, with senior Bailee Meyer taking sixth with a 358.55.
In the pool, East Ridge's Alyssa Kong and Meredith Ubel each took eighth in a pair of their respective swims -- Ubel in the 50-yard freestyle in 25.02 seconds, Kong in the 100-yard freestyle in 54.83.
Kong also placed 12th in the 200-yard freestyle in 2:51. Freshman Taylor Johnson placed 10th in the 100-yard backstroke in 1:11.40, after finishing 12th in the 200-yard individual medley in 2:17.33.
The Raptors' top relay placement came in the 200-yard freestyle as the East Ridge quartet of junior Melanie Rabino, Kong, Johnson and Ubel placed eighth in 1:42.39.
Previous to its turn at True Team, East Ridge topped White Bear Lake, 100-78, in a Suburban East Conference dual meet on Tuesday, Oct. 19.
