Birds, brownies, gifts at Carpenter Center

Naturalists at Carpenter Nature Center, Denmark Township, have planned activities for all ages in December. Programs are free or charge minimal fees. Most require preregistration. For details, call the Center at (651) 437-4359.

  • Weekend Wanderers -- Saturday, Dec. 1, 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. Venture out the first Saturday of the month for a naturalist-led walk. All ages are welcome. The walk is free to Friends of CNC or $3 for nonmembers.
  • Birds & Brownies -- Sunday, Dec. 9, 1 to 3 p.m. Enjoy two of the best things in life - bird watching and eating brownies. Participants will gather at the Visitor Center to pick up binoculars and field guides, hike to various parts of the Nature Center and identify and count birds. The activity will conclude with brownies and beverages by the fireplace. All ages are welcome; Friends of CNC pay $3 and nonmembers pay $5. Preregistration is required.
  • After School Nature Nuts: Gifts for Wildlife -- Monday, Dec. 10, 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. The program is designed for youth, kindergarten through fifth grade. Activities include crafts, exploring outdoors, games and meeting live animals. Reservations are required. Fees are $3 to Friends of CNC; $5 for nonmembers.
  • Preschool Story Time: Gifts for Wildlife -- Friday, Dec. 14, 10 to 11 a.m. CNC preschool story times are designed to introduce young children, ages 2 through 5, to nature in a safe environment. The hour is filled with a story, art, exploring outdoors and meeting live animals. Preregistration is required. Fees are $3 for Friends of CNC; $5 for nonmembers.

    Carpenter Nature Center is located at 12805 St. Croix Trail S., Hastings, about 10 minutes south of Cottage Grove.
