East Ridge VFW swings to success

The East Ridge VFW squad’s bats were busy last week.

The Raptors tallied 51 runs over four games en route to a 4-0 record in a week that saw only one game extend to the full seven innings.

The Raptors romped Mahtomedi 19-0 in five innings last Wednesday. East Ridge recorded an astonishing 20 hits in an offensive outburst highlighted by an 11-run second inning that brought 16 Raptors batters to the plate.

Eight different East Ridge players recorded multiple hits in the victory -- the same number of players who knocked in runs. McCabe, Travis McDonald, Griffen Davis and Connor Malcolm led the way with three hits apiece.

East Ridge was able to save its arms in the victory. Five different Raptors hurlers all threw one inning to combine for the three-hit shutout.

Dylan Blake did just about everything in his power last Thursday to help the Raptors top White Bear Lake 10-3 in the only full-length game of the week.

Blake earned the win on the mound by allowing just two earned runs in five innings of work. Still, his bat was far more impressive.

Blake went 4-for-4 at the dish and knocked in three runs to highlight East Ridge’s 13-hit performance.

The Raptors were able to carry their momentum into the weekend as they delivered a pair of dominating performances in Owatonna last Saturday.

Davis threw a six-inning shutout while striking out five batters in East Ridge’s 11-0 win over Northfield.

East Ridge’s offense collected 13 hits, but the Raptors were fairly quiet through five innings. Leading 3-0 through five frames, East Ridge tacked on eight runs in the bottom of the sixth to put the game away. Ben Zocher’s two-rbi double knocked in two runs to cap off the inning and end the ballgame via the run-rule.

McDonald led the way offensively as he went 4-for-4 and scored three runs.

East Ridge capped off its week with an 11-1 five-inning win over Owatonna.

The Raptors struggled defensively, committing three errors in the field, but Zocher was able to overcome the miscues by allowing just two hits on the mound in a complete game effort.

Blake knocked in two runs in the midst of his 3-for-3 effort at the plate. Brock Albrecht tacked on two hits, as well.

East Ridge pounded out 49 hits for the week in total.
