2014 Spring Preview: East Ridge boys lacrosse team looks to replace leading scorer, goalie in 2014

The East Ridge boys lacrosse team is coming into the season after a 5-8 record and room for improvement.

The Raptors defeated North St. Paul 15-2 in the section tournament play-in game. But White Bear Lake ended East Ridge’s season with a 16-5 victory.

The Raptors will have to find a way to make up some offense this season after graduating leading scorer Eric Birkemeier, who graduated last spring and tallied 20 goals and 13 assists through 10 games.

East Ridge will return its second and third-leading scorers. Senior Killian Wilson finished with 8 goals and 11 assists to finish second on the team in points in 10 games. Junior Roman Woodward scored nine goals and had three assists. Junior Grant Edwards scored 10 goals and five assists in 12 games.

The Raptors will have to replace goalie Dillon Cooper who graduated last spring. Cooper saw the majority of the time in goal for East Ridge and finished with a 3-5 record with a 9.88 goals against average and a .614 save percentage.

Eighth-grader Peyton Bixby played in six games last season and finished with a 1-1 record in goal.

White Bear Lake won the conference last season with a 9-0 mark and went on to win the section title with an 11-8 victory over No. 1 seed Mahtomedi. The Bears finished fourth in state after a 9-5 loss to Champlin Park in the third-place match.

The Raptors will face North St. Paul April 14 in North St. Paul to begin the season.
