East Ridge girls basketball: Raptors bring down Stillwater

The East Ridge girls basketball team went 2-1 in three games last week to improve to 17-7 overall on the year with two games remaining.

East Ridge lost 61-52 to Suburban East Conference foe Cretin-Derham Hall on Tuesday, Feb. 18, before turning it around to beat conference opponent Stillwater 60-54 at home on Friday, Feb. 21 and winning 56-32 over Hudson, Wis., in a non-conference game at The Perch at East Ridge High School on Saturday, Feb. 22.

East Ridge (17-7; 9-7 SEC) snapped a three-game losing streak with its six-point win over Stillwater.

Tied 25-25 at the half, East Ridge outscored Stillwater 35-29 in the second half to earn the hard-fought win over the Ponies (8-16; 4-12 SEC).

East Ridge seniors Jamie Swanson and Dai Mixson led the way for East Ridge with 17 points apiece.

Prior to the win, East Ridge lost a big lead to Cretin-Derham Hall. The Raptors were ahead 27-13 at the half, but the Raiders (15-9; 10-6 SEC) outscored the Raptors 48-25 in the second half.

Three players scored in double figures for the Raptors in the loss. Swanson had a team-high 14 points. Mixson scored 12 points and freshman Emma Stoehr chipped in 10 points.

To end the week, East Ridge outclassed Hudson, going ahead 34-15 in the first half and cruising to the 23-point win.

Mixson led the way with a game-high 17 points.

East Ridge took on Hastings (2-20; 1-15 SEC) on Tuesday, Feb. 25, after the Bulletin went to print. Next, the Raptors close out the regular season at Mounds View (9-15; 4-12 SEC) on Friday, Feb. 28.
