East Ridge boys hockey: Raptors beat Coon Rapids, stop skid

East Ridge snapped a three-game skid Wednesday with a 2-0 victory over Coon Rapids at Cottage Grove Ice Arena.

Derek Hammer and Joey Schutz provided the scoring for the Raptors (9-13-1, 6-11 Suburban East Conference) in the first and third periods. Hammer struck 5 minutes, 44 seconds into the game on an assist from Jake Nickoloff. Schutz netted his goal with 1:27 left to play on an assist from Nickoloff.

East Ridge finished with 32 shots against the Cardinals (3-19, 1-11 Northwest Suburban) in the win.

After the win, White Bear Lake jumped out to an early lead Thursday en route to a 4-2 victory over East Ridge in Vadnais Heights.

Sam Anderson, Matthew Pitcher and Jake Wahlin each scored goals in the first 8:12 of the game. Anderson struck first with a goal at 2:45 while Pitcher followed with a goal at 7:19. Less than a minute later Wahlin scored. Wahlin, who scored four goals against the Raptors in the first meeting of the season, finished with two goals after he added a goal at 13:09 in the third period. Frans Koskinen made it a 3-2 game in the third period with a goal at 5:20.

Alex Pape quelled the onslaught with a goal at 9:46 of the first period to make it a 3-1 deficit.

East Ridge outshot the Bears (17-5-1, 13-2-1 SEC) 27-26 for the game.

To end the week, Cretin-Derham Hall scored twice on the power play Saturday at Highland Arena in St. Paul for a 4-2 victory.

Nick Reis and Bret Huebner scored on the power play for the Raiders (16-5-2, 12-3-2 SEC) who also got goals from Max Jackson and Joe Dekker.

Nickoloff gave East Ridge a 1-0 lead at 6:28 of the first period, but Cretin-Derham Hall took the lead in the second period.

Jackson scored 54 seconds into the period and Reis added a goal at 2:43.

Colin Borsheim tied it at 2-2 1:04 into the third period and the Raiders regained the lead with Dekker’s goal at 10:50.

Huebner added a goal with 24 seconds to play.

Cretin-Derham Hall finished with 44 shots on goal while the Raptors tallied 25. The Raiders finished 2-for-4 on the power play.

East Ridge will face Roseville Thursday at Cottage Grove Ice Arena.
