Park girls hockey: Wolfpack play Eastview tight in season-ending loss

The Park girls hockey team made sure that it did not go quietly in the quarterfinals of Section 3AA.

A No. 7-seeded Wolfpack team gave No. 2-seeded Eastview about all they could handle in a 2-0 loss on Wednesday, Feb. 5. The Wolfpack gave up a goal to the Lightning’s Molly Beckman three minutes into the game, but the score remained 1-0 until the final period at the Apple Valley Sports Arena. Wolfpack goalie Paige Press would not surrender another goal until the 6:24 mark of the third period. Press stopped 24 shots and had a .923 save percentage.

Defensively, the Wolfpack held the Lightning to 26 shots, including just six in the second period and 0-2 on the power play. Offensively, the Wolfpack struggled to get shots with 13. and they went 0-3 on the power play.

Giving up the late goal more or less ended the Wolfpack’s hopes for an upset, and it ended their season. The Lightning had a 16-9-1 regular season record and took fourth in a tough South Suburban Conference at 8-7-1. The Wolfpack finished the season at 4-20-2 overall and 2-14-2 in the Suburban East.

Park says good-bye to just four seniors — Maddie Nelson, Emma Waller, Paige Hill and Anna Keys.
