Park boys swimming & diving: Powerhouse Ponies too much for Wolfpack

Perennial state and Suburban East Conference power Stillwater was too much for the Park boys swimming and diving team in a 95-83 loss Jan. 31, in Cottage Grove.

Stillwater won nine of the 12 events at the meet, finished first, second and third in three events, first and second in five events and mathematically clinched the win with three events to go.

Park junior Adam Raymond had a hand in all three of the Wolfpack’s first-place finishes.

Raymond won the 50-yard freestyle in 23.77 seconds and touched the wall first in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1 minute, 7.03 seconds. Raymond also helped Park’s 200-yard freestyle relay team take first place with a time of 1:38.02. Jarrett Mansergh, Kevin Riepe and Austin Boreen also were part of the winning relay.

Individually, Mansergh took second in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:56.89 and was second in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 53.40.

Riepe was third in the 50 free with a time of 25.80 and finished fourth in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 1:13.02.

Also, Mack Christianson earned third place in the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2:19.51 and was fourth in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:07.33.

In the diving competition, Nicholas Germscheid placed third with a 190.05, Robert Heitman was fourth with a 176.45 and Kevin Roettger placed fifth with a 173.35. Stillwater’s Anthony Shanley won the event with a 217.20 score.

Next, Park hosts Mounds View on Thursday at Cottage Grove Middle School.
