East Ridge dance team: Raptors earn top finish of season

The East Ridge High School dance team continued to establish themselves after taking home second-place honors in the Kick division and third place in the Jazz category at the 16th-annual Simley High School Dance Team Booster Club Invitational.

“We continue to get better,” East Ridge co-head coach Ashley Stoffel said. “This competition was challenging because we had some girls away on a mission trip. We needed to make some adjustments to our formations, which also provided an opportunity for some of the younger dancers to take the floor.”

East Ridge now will prepare for the Section 3AAA tournament, held Feb. 8 at Bloomington Kennedy, as teams hope to advance to the state dance team competition.

The state meet, first started in 1975, has evolved to its current format of Classes A, AA, and AAA competing in the Jazz and Kick divisions. East Ridge, which finished fourth in the Suburban East Conference this year, is a Class AAA competitor.

“The girls have gotten stronger and more consistent as the season has progressed,” said co-head coach Ms. Melissa Vogler. “We are proud of all their hard work and are really looking forward to sections,"

The East Ridge dance team will next perform at halftime of the East Ridge girls varsity basketball game versus Forest Lake on Friday, Jan. 31, at East Ridge High School. The game starts at 7:15 p.m.
