East Ridge gymnastics: Raptors flip past Royals in rivalry meet

Friends were foes on Thursday as the East Ridge and Woodbury gymnastics teams faced off at Woodbury High School.

In the battle of the two Woodbury-based high schools, East Ridge topped Woodbury 140.85 to 132.85.

East Ridge sophomore Megan Trollen led the way for the Raptors, who are ranked ninth in Class AA, winning the all-around with a 36.85.

Trollen won the floor exercise with a 9.425, took first on the beam with an 8.925, had the top score in the uneven bars with a 9.2 and was third in the vault with a 9.3.

Fellow East Ridge sophomore Wren Anderson, who was limited because of a leg injury, won the vault with a 9.45. Anderson also scored an 8.9 on the bars and an 8.55 in the floor exercise. Taryn Johnson, also a sophomore at East Ridge, finished second in the all-around with a 35.425. Johnson’s night included a second-place finish in the floor exercise with a 9.125, a second-place finish on the beam with an 8.8 and a fourth-place finish in the vault with a 9.2. Another East Ridge sophomore Karina Joiner was third in the vault with a 9.325. Joiner earned third overall in the all-around with a 33.925.

Sophomore Maddie Pearson led Woodbury with a 34.625 all-around score. Pearson had a team-high 9.325 in the vault and a 9.125 in the floor exercise to go along with an 8.05 on bars and an 8.125 on beam. 

Mackenzie Beck has Woodbury’s second-best all-around score with a 33.5. Her night included a team-best 8.6 on the beam, an 8.4 in the floor exercise, a team-best 8.25 in the uneven bars and an 8.25 in the vault. Woodbury senior Rose Peterson had an all-around score of 31.16. Peterson’s top score was in the floor exercise, where she scored an 8.45. She also had an 8.4 in the vault. 

Tessa Halada turned in one of Woodbury’s top score in the vault with an 8.5. 

East Ridge improved to 6-1 in the Suburban East Conference on the year with the win. Woodbury is 2-3 on the year in the SEC.

Next, East Ridge is at home against Forest Lake, while Woodbury welcomes Cretin-Derham Hall to town on Thursday, Jan. 30.
