Park girls hockey: Hill gets hat trick, but Wolfpack fall short at Hastings

Paige Hill’s hat trick could not stop the Park girls hockey team from dropping its fifth-straight game on Saturday, Jan. 19.

Hill helped the Wolfpack give Suburban East Conference rival Hastings a tough game, pulling her team within a goal three times in a 4-3 loss. In the second period, she scored her first goal, assisted by Madison Nelson to cut a 2-0 deficit to a goal, 2-1.

Hill then scored a power play goal for Park ((3-15-2, 1-10-2 SEC) early in the third period, which trimmed the deficit to 3-2. Dani Perry and Alyssa Wickenhouser assisted on the goal.

The Raiders (10-9-1; 6-6-1 SEC) cushioned their lead three minutes later with a goal for a 4-2 lead. Hill scored her second power play goal of the period about a minute later to make it 4-3. Perry and Nelson assisted on the goal, but the Raiders held on for the win.

Paige Press took the loss in net for the Wolfpack with 37 saves and a .902 save percentage. Going 2-4 on the penalty kill hurt the Wolfpack’s chances.

Earlier in the week against Mounds View, the Wolfpack went 2-2 on the penalty kill. However, the Mustangs piled on three goals in the second period to hand the Wolfpack a 5-1 loss.

Emma Waller had the lone goal for the Wolfpack in the Jan. 14 game. She ended the shutout bid with a goal at 16:23 in the second period, assisted by Hill. Bryce Boreen stopped 41 shots in goal with a save percentage of .891.

In making up a for postponed game due to record cold, the Wolfpack take on Woodbury (6-13-1, 1-11-1 SEC) play on Thursday at 7:30 p.m. The Wolfpack will also host Stillwater (9-8, 7-4 SEC) at 3 p.m.
