Park girls basketball: Wolfpack stay unbeaten in SEC with 16-point win over Mounds View

The Park girls basketball breezed past Mounds View with a 65-49 win on Friday, Jan. 10, in Mounds View to remain undefeated in the Suburban East Conference.

Park jumped out to a 37-28 halftime lead then outscored the Mustangs 28-21 in the second half to cruise to the 16-point win.

“Overall I was very pleased with our girls and how they played together to make things work on both ends of the floor,” Park head coach Stephanie Tolkinen said.

Eight different players scored for Park in the win.

Park senior guard Sydney Lamberty continued her torrid scoring pace, netting a game-high 22 points. Lamberty is averaging 25.2 points per game on the year for the Wolfpack (8-3; 4-0 SEC).

In addition to Lamberty, senior Molly Swanson scored a season-high 17 points. Swanson hit five 3-pointers in the win over the Mustangs (5-7; 0-5 SEC).

“Mounds View came at us with a box-and-1 defense which I thought our girls did a pretty good job attacking,” Tolkinen said. “The biggest thing that helped against this junk defense is the shooting of Molly Swanson.” In addition, senior Temi Ogunrinde and junior Carlie Williams each scored six points.

“The other girls that played were able to score as well which really helped (Lamberty) get into the game and not have to work so hard to get open,” Tolkinen said. “We were able to get some defensive boards and transition those into points at the other end.”

Park’s game with White Bear Lake last Tuesday was postponed due to the cold weather and has been rescheduled for Feb. 6.
