Park girls hockey: Wolfpack look ahead to games against rivals East Ridge, Woodbury

The new year will ring in rivals East Ridge and Woodbury for the Park girls hockey team.

Since an 0-7 start, the Wolfpack have picked up steam with a 2-2-2 stretch going into the Christmas break. They picked up 2-1 wins over South St. Paul and Forest Lake, and the Wolfpack tied a couple of Suburban East Conference games in that span.

Park (2-10-2; 1-6-2 SEC) came up short to Cretin-Derham Hall in a 4-0 loss right before the break on Dec. 21. A two-goal first period by the second-place Raiders put the Wolfpack behind for the game. Wolfpack goalie Paige Press finished with 29 saves and an .879 save percentage.

During the Christmas break, the Wolfpack competed in Farmington’s holiday tournament. They opened the tourney with a 1-0 overtime loss to Shakopee on Thursday, Dec. 26. Press had 11 saves in the loss with a .917 save percentage. Offensively, the Wolfpack out-shot the Sabers 23-12.

Saturday’s game against East Ridge will require a strong offensive performance from the Wolfpack since the Raptors average 3.3 goals per game. The Raptors (7-6, 4-5 SEC) won the first meeting 1-0 on Nov. 19.

On Tuesday, Jan. 7, the Wolfpack will also look to turn the tide in their series with the Woodbury Royals (6-10, 1-8 SEC). The Wolfpack lost by a goal, 4-3, to the Royals back on Nov. 23.

Maria Houle leads the Wolfpack in goal scoring this season with five, and Emma Waller has three. Dani Perry has the team’s top assist total at four.
