Park diver Sarah Schank stuck to the program that got her to the Class AA state swimming and diving meet and it led her to the finals.

Schank, a junior, finished 11th with a score of 325.30 in 1-meter diving in the finals by performing the same dives she did at the section meet.

“I’m really happy with what I did,” Schank said. “I did all the same dives I did at sections just to stay consistent and just to be not as scared and nervous.”

Schank admitted to having some butterflies in prelims, but those eventually subsided as she focused on her dives. Schank had a score of 234.15 in prelims, which put her in 11th place.

“It was exciting,” Schank said. “I didn’t think I was going to make it. My first goal was just to make it past the first cut and making it to finals is even better.”

The state meet served as the biggest meet Schank has ever participated in, but the experience has given her more confidence for next season.

“Next year I’m definitely going to have a lot more confidence in all my dives and just knowing I can do them really well,” Schank said.

Schank and her coaches kept the dives the same at state to create a consistency for the meet.

“We did move some dives around to get the difficulty where we wanted it to be,” Park diving coach Erin Miller said. “Basically we just wanted her to be consistent and shoot for that.”

Park head coach Amanda Johnson said Schank handled the pressure of the state meet well.

“There are some dives she’s a little more nervous on, but those are her most beautiful dives also,” Johnson said. “I think she handled that pressure really well.”

Mounds View senior Kiley Kuether won the event with score of 408.05 and Rochester Century sophomore Andrianna Jacobs took second with a 401.15 score.
