New Life Academy boys basketball: Eagles return from break with win

After losing three straight games, it was pretty apparent that the New Life Academy boys basketball team may have needed a break.

That break came thanks to the holiday vacation that gave the Eagles two weeks off.

The vacation might have been just what the Eagles needed. In their first game of 2013, New Life Academy defeated Lester Prairie/Holy Trinity 89-64 on Jan. 4.

The Eagles (4-3, 1-1 Minnesota Christian Athletic Association) had a fairly balanced attack. Three players scored 10 or more points, while 12 total players scored.

Sophomore guard Sam Horner led the way with 19 points. Sophomore forward Conrad Engstrom and senior guard Cameron Duffy scored 14 and 13 points, respectively.

For Lester Prairie/Holy Trinity (5-4, 1-1), junior guard Nick Machemehl led the way with 19 points, while junior forward Spencer Radtke added 13.

The win gave the Eagles their first win in conference play, which puts them in second place. The only teams above New Life are Maranatha Christian (9-0, 2-0) and Heritage Christian Academy (10-0, 2-0).

The Eagles have a busy week ahead. On Tuesday, they traveled to play Trinity at River Ridge (3-7, 1-1), after the Bulletin went to press. Next, on Thursday, NLA hit the road again, playing Southwest Christian (2-6, 1-1), and on Saturday they host Lakeview Christian Academy (6-6).
