Park swimming & diving: Cachuela sprints to win in 50 free, Wolfpack fall to Cretin-Derham Hall

The Park girls swimming and diving team was sunk by Suburban East Conference foe Cretin-Derham Hall 94-84 in the Wolfpack’s most recent meet, held Thursday, Oct. 10, at Cottage Grove Middle School.

Cretin-Derham Hall went 1-2-3 in three events and 1-2 in five events and mathematically won the meet with three events remaining.

Park earned the top spot in the meet in two events — the 50-yard freestyle and in diving.

Park senior Tiana Cachuela won the 50 free in a time of 27.09 seconds and junior Sarah Schank won the diving competition with a score of 209.35. The Wolfpack took the top three places in diving in all. After Schank, senior Allie Minogue took second place with a score of 146.6 and eighth-grader Kylie Doty placed third with a score of 128.35.

In other swimming events, Park senior Sarah Forthun swam to a second-place finish in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1 minute, 15.06 seconds, Cachuela earned third place in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:18.98 and Maddy McNearney placed third in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 1:01.24 and was third in the 50 free with a time of 27.17. In relays, Park’s 200-yard free relay of Cachuela, McNearney, Hannah Munson and Peyton Adams placed second with a time of 1:51.97.

Park closes out the regular season at Hastings on Thursday, Oct. 24.
