New Life Academy volleyball: Eagles open conference play with pair of wins

The New Life Academy volleyball team began its conference schedule with two convincing wins this past week.

Tuesday, the Eagles beat Bethany in three sets, and Thursday they beat rival Legacy Christian Academy 25-12, 25-16, 25-12. Leading the way for the Eagles was sophomore setter Kara Stenerson, who posted 49 assists in the two matches. Sophmore middle hitter Abby Thor added 32 kills during the two matches and sophomore outside hitter Abby Gorter tallied 28 kills for the week. Junior libero Mattie Stocker added 24 digs furing the two matches. The Eagles improved their season record to 7-3.

The Eagles took on rival Maranatha at home Tuesday, after the Bulletin went to press. Next, New Life travels to Lester Prairie Thursday, before playing in the annual Showcase Volleyball Tournament at Northern Lights Volleyball Warehouse this coming weekend.

“This is a test we are looking forward to,” New Life head coach Wally Bomgren said. “Many of the top 1A teams from around the state will be there. We will be up for this and are honored to be invited this year.”
