East Ridge girls swimming & diving: Raptors top White Bear Lake

East Ridge’s girls swim and dive team had its first win of the season last Thursday when it traveled to White Bear Lake. East Ridge won the meet 102-79. East Ridge also participated in the Maroon and Gold Invitational swim meet on Saturday, Sept. 7.

The Raptors opened the dual meet with White Bear Lake by winning the first event, the 200 medley relay. The team of Kayla Maatta, Kendra Strickland, Taylor Johnson and Maddy Peters won the event with a time of 2:01.31. East Ridge swimmers Johnson, Haley Dahl, and Taylor Blatchford placed first, second, and third in the first individual event of the meet, the 200 freestyle. Peters, Sophie Rabino, and Emily Dahl placed second, third and fourth in the 200 individual medley, respectively; and Brianna Schmitt, Lindsey Lewis, and Strickland placed second, third and fifth in the 50 freestyle.

East Ridge diver Olivia Burleigh won the diving section of the meet with a score of 184.55 points. Ally Dornseif placed second in diving with a score of 137.75, and Cassie Kahrer placed fourth with a score of 125.90.

East Ridge swimmers and relay teams won every event after and including the 500 freestyle. The 500 was won by Haley Dahl, the 100 backstroke by Maatta, and the 100 breaststroke by Johnson. The 200 freestyle relay was won by the team of Johnson, Lewis, Blatchford, and Schmitt; and the 400 freestyle relay was won by the team of Peters, Lewis, Blatchford, and H.Dahl.

At the Maroon and Gold Invite, several swimmers placed in the top 20 of 50 individual swimmers per event. The 200 medley relay team of H. Dahl, Blatchford, Johnson, and Schmitt placed 16th to start off the meet. Lewis placed 17th as the first individual swimmer of the meet for East Ridge, in the 200 freestyle. The Raptors’ highest individual finisher was Olivia Burleigh, who placed sixth in diving with a score of 178.95. Johnson placed 12th in the 100 butterfly, Peters placed 20th in the 100 freestyle, and Lewis and Johnson placed 12th and 14th in the 500 freestyle respectively. The 200 freestyle relay team of Peters, Schmitt, Lewis, and Sydney Schmitz placed 17th. H. Dahl placed 16th in the 100 backstroke, and the 400 freestyle relay team of Lewis, Peters, Schmitz and Johnson placed 14th.

East Ridge’s next meet will be held on Thursday, Sept. 12, when the Raptors take on the Woodbury Royals.
