East Ridge volleyball: Raptors beat Eastview, start 1-1

The East Ridge volleyball team started the season with a split.

The Raptors (1-1) began the year with a 3-1 win over Eastview, before falling 3-1 to Edina in a pair of non-conference matches last week.

In the season opener, at East Ridge High School, the Raptors took down Eastview 25-21, 21-25, 25-20, 25-18 in the four-set match. Eastview fell to 0-3 with the loss.

East Ridge totaled 79 digs in the match and hit .216 for the win.

East Ridge senior Makayla Sauro hit .272 in the win and junior Maddie Christenson hit .250.

Against Edina (2-1), East Ridge won the first set 25-21, but fell 25-15, 25-20 and 25-21 in the last three sets.

East Ridge senior Jamie Swanson hit a .207 for the match and junior Emily Hrastich hit a .333 in the loss.

Next, East Ridge is in Marshall on Friday, Sept. 6, for an invitational that includes a number of the top teams in the state.
