2013 Spring Preview: Keys set to lead youthful, but talented Park girls golf team in 2013

Junior Anna Keys returns to help lead the Park girls golf team this spring. Keys was the Wolfpack's top golfer and a state entrant last season.

The Park girls golf team graduated four seniors from its 2012 roster -- Joelene Dittman, Bre Baker, Megan Diamond and Lexy Lamar -- but the team brings back five letter-winners this spring, including the Wolfpack's top golfer, state-entrant Anna Keys.

Keys, a junior, took eighth place at the section meet to earn a trip to state last year, then went on to take 29th place out of 88 competitors in the Class AAA State Tournament, at Bunker Hills Golf Course in Coon Rapids. Keys shot a 173 at the two-day, 36-hole tournament to end in a four-way tie for 29th place. On the par-72 course, Keys carded an 89 on the first day and an 84 on the second day. She also finished fifth overall individually in the Suburban East Conference, which earned her an All-Conference distinction.

Along with Keys, Park welcomes back senior Greta Tank, sophomore Karissa Fischer and freshmen Annika Hein and Lexi Hofsetter. As an eighth-grader, Hofstetter earned All-Conference honorable mention and also finished well enough on the first day of the section tournament to qualify for the second round.

As a team, Park shot a 394 on the first day of sections to finish ninth in the 11-team tournament and took eighth place in the 10-team Suburban East Conference final standings. The 2012 SEC champion was Stillwater, while Eastview won the Section 4 championship crown.

This year, in the Suburban East Conference, it's believed Cretin-Derham Hall, Stillwater and East Ridge will be the teams to beat this spring. In Section 4, it's thought that Eastview, East Ridge and Rosemount will be the likely squads standing in Park's way of the state tournament.

Weather permitting, Park's first conference match is set for Monday, April 15, at Stillwater Country Club.
