2013 Spring Preview: Park boys lacrosse team brings back majority of roster for second season

Park senior Luke Nelson returns to the Wolfpack this spring. The attacker is one of many key players back on the roster this year.

Last year the Park boys lacrosse team broke off on its own for the first time and put together a solid 4-8 season, which included a 2-8 record in the Suburban East Conference and big wins over East Ridge and Hastings.

This year Park, and second-year head coach Greg Rinzel, returns all but two of the players from last year's roster. The Wolfpack will need to replace midfielder Joey Pierre and defender Tyler Weber, who were 2012 graduates. However, Park brings back many key players this spring, including senior attacker Luke Nelson, junior attacker Brent Wallace, sophomore attacker Lauden Rinzel, senior midfielders Cody Newton and Austin Herder, junior attacker Zach Bezek and senior midfielder Jacob Garr.

Park's season came to an end last year with a 14-6 loss to Hopkins in the first round of the Section 5 tournament.

This year, White Bear Lake -- the defending conference champ -- Stillwater and Roseville will likely be the teams to beat in the Suburban East Conference. In Section 4, which was drastically realigned this year, White Bear Lake will also likely be the top team, with Stillwater and Mahtomedi also in the mix.

Park opens the season at home on Thursday, April 11, against Rochester John Marshall at Wolfpack Stadium. Other key games include at new section foe Hill-Murray on April 15, at home against Stillwater on April 24 and at White Bear Lake on April 29.

Park will also continue the tradition with East Ridge and Woodbury for the "SoWashCo Cup" this season. Woodbury has yet to lose to either of its District 833 foes. The Wolfpack hosts the Royals on May 1, then is at East Ridge on May 6.
