Park boys basketball: Wolfpack to face No. 1 Apple Valley in Section 3AAAA tournament

Park junior guard Sully Brenke and the Wolfpack fell to rivals Woodbury and East Ridge last week. Park takes on No. 1 Apple Valley in the playoffs this week.

It was rivalry week for the Park boys basketball team as it went on the road for a pair of games against Woodbury and East Ridge to close out the regular season.

The fellow District 833 and Suburban East Conference foes didn't let the Wolfpack end things with an upset. Woodbury beat Park 79-45 on Tuesday and East Ridge downed the Wolfpack 74-37 on Friday.

In the loss to Woodbury, which is ranked fifth in Class AAAA, the Royals opened up a 58-22 halftime lead and never looked back. For Park, junior guard Ryan Klika led the way with a team-high 14 points. However, he was the only Wolfpack player to reach double figures. In addition, sophomores Tommy Tola and Jeb Melson chipped in nine points each.

A total of 12 players scored for Woodbury. Senior guard Renard Suggs led all scorers with 16 points.

Individual statistics from the East Ridge game were not made available.

Things don't get easier for Park in the playoffs. The Wolfpack drew the eighth seed in the eight-team Section 3AAAA tournament and is forced to face No. 1-seeded and No. 1-ranked Apple Valley in the opening round on Wednesday, March 6, in Apple Valley. The Eagles, led by the much-hyped Tyus Jones, are 25-1 and riding a 24-game win streak.
