To the editor:
First, Dan Schoen did the right thing by resigning his post in the Minnesota Senate. Second, I was distraught by the news about the claims of sexual harassment as I have supported and defended Schoen for five years. Since my childhood, I have experienced harassment in many different places and venues as a disabled man and believe harassment to be wrong and disgusting.
However, it should be noted that local Republican activists and candidates in the district also have their skeletons in the their closet and have less-than-stellar records of acceptable behavior including DWIs and domestic violence charges. And finally, Schoen's opponents in 2012, 2014, and 2016 were all either tea party or extremely right-wing candidates, so the concern of what the Republican Party's actual agenda given the nature of all three candidates must not be overlooked.
In the end, the best thing to do is to look forward and focus on what is best for the local area.
