Letter to the editor: You can help with FoodShare campaign

The Minnesota FoodShare March Campaign is gearing up to help replenish food shelves across the state during the month of March, and Friends in Need is hoping for your support.

The money, toiletries and food that we receive during the month of March are partially matched by Minnesota FoodShare. Cash is most valuable as we can purchase about $10 worth of groceries for every $1 we spend at Second Harvest. If you would like to send a check, please mail it to Friends in Need, P.O. Box 6, Cottage Grove, MN 55016. If you would prefer to donate by credit card or PayPal, please go to our website at and click on the "Donate" button. If you would like to do a drive in March, we would encourage you to consider toiletry items such as toilet paper, bar soap, shampoo, paper towels, deodorant, feminine hygiene products, dish soap, and large-size diapers as these items are really appreciated by clients. Donations of toiletries or food items can be brought to Friends in Need on Tuesdays between 7 a.m. and 6 p.m. (at the volunteer entrance) or dropped off at the large Food Shelf box in the exit foyer at Cub Foods in Cottage Grove (24 hours a day).

We have settled into our new building, which is right behind Carbone's Pizza in St. Paul Park. If you would like to take a tour, please give us a call or stop by on a Tuesday. We continue to offer bountiful amounts of fresh produce, milk, eggs, deli, dairy and frozen meat along with non-perishables and toiletries. We served 28,000 people last year, and offering healthy food to our clients has been a high priority for us. Thank you so much for your support of Friends in Need and the work we do to serve our community.
